Ok, just listened to this piece of the show, and was very positive, and they pretty much mentioned all the aspects that have been in most of the prior articles etc. regarding the brain port, including Dr. Paul Bach-y-Rita's theories on the brain being the primary part of the whole visual process, meaning that you don't only see with your eyes, but can make use of all your other senses, visualisation etc. to in fact see. They also mentioned most of the examples like throwing a basketball into a dustbin, kicking a soccer ball, being able to recognise things like letters on signs, etc. etc., and one or two other things that were slightly different like the test subject - a guy called Richard watching traffic and noticing vehicles with shiny hubcaps etc. etc. They also said while he's carried out around 40-50 hours of practice use, he's still making better and better use of it on an ongoing basis. They were also talking about making use of it with various types of lenses or cameras including telescopes, microscopes, infrared lenses etc. etc., and all sounds good. Also spoke about various sort of wireless possibilities in the future, like instead of wearing it on your tongue, it would actually be something sort of on the roof of your mouth, that you would then activate by touching it with your tongue, but that would sort of mean you could keep it implemented, but only make use of it when wanting/needing to use it. They didn't really mention too many time frames, apart from most likely being commercially available by the end of the year, and they reckoned it's already being tested internationally, and they also said nothing about pricing etc. Anycase, sounds like Dr. Paul Bach-y-Rita had the right ideas in terms of a somewhat alternative approach, and definitely sounds like an overall good thing, in the long run.
