Not too sure about recording quality as such yet since haven't tried it out
too much as of yet, and the primary issue there would be that it can only
use it's own internal built in microphone, but you can change all sorts of
settings relating to audio quality, KBPs, KHz ranges etc., and in terms of audio
playback quality, it definitely seems pretty decent.

Only thing have sort of noticed is that on my creative zenstone, where I
dropped the MP3 files to 64kbps to save file size, since you couldn't hear
differences unless going below that level, on this one, depending on actual
volume output, you can slightly hear that these files could be slightly
better quality, but this is now just due to me just having copied the
collection of zenstone files over to it, so will still have to maybe put
together a form of comparison collection like did last time, but, definitely
pretty good sound output if I play it through either decent speakers, or
decent headphones.

Was now just testing it using my portable guitar amp thing, that would let
me sit outdoors and play audio for people without actual power supplies, and
definitely not too bad sound output quality.

The total price, including actual price, shipping and import duties came to
around R750 - and if I look at a sort of local shopping comparison website,
it seems the general price for the same unit, but standard and not
rockboxed/talking this side comes to around R1200 or thereabouts.

Stay well

Very interesting Jacob. How do you rate the recording and music playback
quality? What was the final total cost.

Kind regards

Neville

Subject: [Blind] Sansa E260 multimedia player - with rockbox on it to get
itto talk

I this week got hold of my Sansa E260 multimedia PDA via:
http://www.accessibleelectronics.com/

While it took a bit of time to arrive via the united states postal
service,
the pricing worked out pretty decent, and while still need to get a bit
more
used to using all of it, I will just say am quite impressed.

Basically, it can play audio and video files, and either manually, or
automatically create playback bookmarks for you, can do external audio
recording using it's own built in microphone, and also has an FM radio
built
into it, that can also be recorded to an MP3 file if you want.

Will also just say that the sort of three initial things that I like
about
it are the fact that it can tell you the battery levels, can read you the
file names etc., and the bookmarking features, which mean that in a large
file you could come back and carry on listening to it from where you were
quite easily.

I still have to get used to all of the menu systems, it's version of a
context menu, it's virtual keyboard that gets used for renaming files and
labelling FM radio presets and playlists etc., but definitely a very
impressive/useful gadget, and FWIW, apart from audio file formats, and
the
built in radio, and recording functionality, it can also play some video
file formats, and I think display bitmap pictures.

Lastly, apart from the fact that it took over a month to get here partly
due
to festive season postal activity etc., and while a form of guarantee
procedure wouldn't be best since bought it from supplier in the USA, I
paid
quite a bit less for the upgraded/rockboxed version than they seem to go
for
standard here.
