Hi,

A couple of points about your comments about the Mitutoyo caliper.

I agree that freeing up from a physical wire would be nice However, I assume, if they haven't actually built bluetooth into the caliper itself, which I would be surprised if they did, they would probably just supply a bluetooth module connected to the caliper by a cable. So you aren't going to be completely free from wires, but I could be wrong and they are now building bluetooth into the device.

Secondly, I wouldn't mind having a laptop in my shop to keep notes, have a calculator on hand, and be able to reference lots of tables and charts I might need. I wouldn't want an expensive laptop in there because it is a harsh environment, but older laptops are easy to come by.

Lastly, you are mistaken that you would need to open a file every time you wanted to read the output from the caliper and thus it wouldn't be instantaneous. You wold open a file first, then start using the caliper and it would dump into the file. As long as you have everything set up, you would hear the output as it came in.

Also, I might still opt for the laptop using bluetooth instead of just my cell phone, since like I said before, it would be nice to have the laptop there anyway, as long as the laptop had bluetooth, it would work the same way as the cell phone.
