It has a formula in it that determines the point value of the item you will be eating. Let me give you the formula as the slide rule is not blind person friendly. The 3 things you want to look at on each package is: total calories per serving, total dietary fiber and total fat. Unless you have other issues with your health such as an intolerance to sugar or salt, this is all we need. First look at fiber and for each gram of fiber add 12.25 up to 4 grams. Ex. If you see that an item has 4 grams of fiber you can subtract 50 from the total calories. So for instance, a fiber one bar has 150 calories and 9 grams of dietary fiber, you take the 150 and subtract 50 and your total is now 100 calories for that item- 2 points. Now the hard part comes. To figure out points with fat grams, tate the total fat grams and divide that number by 12. For example, if you have an item with 3 grams of fat and you divide it by 12, your answer is .2. If the number is greater than .5 you would have to add another point. and if you have 2 points already and add .2 Now you are confused and so was I at the beginning, but this is how the slide rule works. Good luck. I'm rather impressed by your weight loss as I'm sure you must be. I plan to attend a meeting this week and I thank you for giving me hints as to how to approach the leader and letting me know what resources there are for blind folks. What is this "slide rule point" you speak of? I can do it without looking now. By the way I am totally blind.
