Eighty blind athletes will run in Biggest Bangkok marathon

[ATHLETICS] Eighty blind athletes will run with the aid of volunteers in the
Standard Chartered Bangkok Marathon on November 18.

The blind runners are due to meet the volunteers who will run alongside them at
Lumpini Park this Sunday.

The historic "Running with 80 Blind", which will start and finish on Sanam Chai
Road in front of the Grand Palace near Sanam Luang in Banglamphu, is part of
the 20th staging of the Bangkok marathon.

Organisers are hoping to top 50,000 participants for the first time for the
three main events - the 42.2km full marathon, 21.1km half marathon and 10km
mini-marathon.

The big day will be jointly organised by Standard Chartered Bank (Thai),
Thailand's Association of the Blind, and the National Jogging Association of
Thailand (NJAT). The run will pay tribute to HM the King on his 80th birthday
this year.

NJAT president General Manas Klaimanee said: "The Standard Chartered Bangkok
Marathon is the biggest international running event in the country and also a
major charity event.

"The marathon will raise funds for His Majesty's Chaipattana Foundation and
also for the "Seeing is Believing" charity project by Standard Chartered Bank,"
he said.
