New Orleans CityBusiness, LA, USA Monday, October 08, 2007 Blinded Veterans set White Cane Day The Blinded Veterans Association, Louisiana Regional Group, will hold White Cane Day at Lakeside Shopping Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. White Cane Day, an annual event to promote blind awareness since established by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, has since spread to all 50 states. All states now have laws to protect blind and visually impaired pedestrians. White Cane Day this year will offer information and demonstrations of the latest technology and visual aids for the blind and visually impaired. The following organizations are involved: Lighthouse for the Blind, New Orleans Chapter; WRBH 88.3FM radio for the blind and print handicapped; Concerned Care Home Health and Hospice, New Orleans area; Audio Visual Mart, Kenner; Veterans Administration, New Orleans; National Federation of the Blind, New Orleans chapter; and Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network.
