Blinded Veterans set White Cane Day

The Blinded Veterans Association, Louisiana Regional Group, will hold White
Cane Day at Lakeside Shopping Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

White Cane Day, an annual event to promote blind awareness since established by
President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, has since spread to all 50 states. All
states now have laws to protect blind and visually impaired pedestrians.

White Cane Day this year will offer information and demonstrations of the
latest technology and visual aids for the blind and visually impaired.

The following organizations are involved: Lighthouse for the Blind, New Orleans
Chapter; WRBH 88.3FM radio for the blind and print handicapped; Concerned Care
Home Health and Hospice, New Orleans area; Audio Visual Mart, Kenner; Veterans
Administration, New Orleans; National Federation of the Blind, New Orleans
chapter; and Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network.
