JaniCon to Host Advance Screening Of New Indie Thriller

Jacksonville, Florida-Joseph M. Monks is no stranger to overcoming obstacles
and surpassing expectations. The writer-turned-director has been swimming
against the tide for years. Beginning with a small, upstart comic book
publishing company in the early 1990s, Monks has continued to be a producer of
horror stories-both prose and illustrated-since he first hit the publishing
scene in 1989. Now, despite having lost his eyesight, Monks continues to break
new ground and defy the odds, having produced a feature film that will see its
latest screening at JaniCon, taking place at the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverwalk
Hotel, November 2-4.

Coming off a successful theatrical premiere at the Halloween Horror Picture
Show film festival, Monks, who lost his eyesight in 2002 after a long battle
with diabetic retinopathy, is currently showing the film to distributors, and
is beginning to explore financing options for his next project. Says Monks of
JaniCon, "This is the perfect place to hold a screening. I've been writing and
publishing comic books for years, and this convention will have a huge
crossover audience. Fans of comic books and animated films and live-action
features. I'm happy to be a guest and look forward to having another audience
get a chance to give me feedback about the film."

The Bunker revolves around the story of 16-year-old Julia Jennings, the
daughter of a congressman who runs away the night he announces his bid for
reelection. Once on the streets of New York City, however, she finds life
outside the media spotlight is even more terrifying, when she is kidnapped by a
sadistic serial killer with a devastating secret.

With critical praise coming from the likes of FANGORIA's Tom Carnell, Rue
Morgue Magazine, The Hacker's Source, and other genre trades, the word has
spread to the mainstream, where Monks has been featured in the Miami Herald,
and been a phone guest on the nationally syndicated Opie & Anthony radio
program.
