Crashes Randomly
Document ID: 1740HQ

Try each step below one at a time. If one step doesn't fix the problem,=20
then try the next one, and so on.

1.

Make sure your System Date is set properly. Double click on the clock on=20
your Windows task bar and check the date, time, and time zone settings. If=
 you
make any changes, reboot your computer.

2.

Go into the Eudora directory and delete the folder EudPriv.

3.

Start up Eudora. Hold down the keys CTRL and SHIFT, then go to Tools:=20
Options:. It will prompt you to reset your settings file - click YES and=20
see if the
problems continue.

4.

If you're on Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP, restart your computer in Windows=20
Safe Mode. To learn how to restart Windows in Safe Mode, go to your Start=20
button,
select Help, and type Safe Mode. The Windows help file will explain how to=
=20
restart in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, try launching Eudora. If it works this way, then you may=
=20
have a conflict with some other program that starts up automatically or with
your video drivers. Try reinstalling your video drivers or check with the=20
manufacturer of your video card and check for the latest drivers for it.

5.

Go to Tools: Options: Viewing Mail. Uncheck Use Microsoft's Viewer and Show=
=20
Message Preview Pane. Go to Tools: Options: Extra Warnings. Uncheck Start=20
Eudora
and it's not the default mailer. Click OK to save your changes.

6.

This item only applies if you are running Windows 95 through Windows=20
98(first edition). Certain versions of the riched32.dll have been known to=
=20
cause crashing
in Eudora.
Download this version of the riched file.
Run it and it will expand into a directory named C:\Eudora_DLL_Files. Move=
=20
the riched32.dll file from this directory into the directory=
 C:\Windows\System\
directory. Let it overwrite the existing riched32.dll. Reboot the computer=
=20
and see if the problem is fixed.

7.

Quit Eudora and go into the Eudora directory. Look for these files and=20
rename them from -> to:

List of 6 items

=95 in.mbx -> oldin.mbx

=95 in.toc -> oldin.toc

=95 out.mbx -> oldout.mbx

=95 out.toc -> oldout.toc

=95 trash.mbx -> oldtrash.mbx

=95 trash.toc -> oldtrash.toc

list end

Now delete the file descmap.pce. Now start up Eudora and your In, Out, and=
=20
Trash mailboxes will be empty. Your old mail will be stored in new mailboxes
named OldIn, OldOut, and OldTrash.
