Hello Mary and everyone,
An issue we're seeing with certain tv apps is the
inconsistency of accessibility when they're run
on various tv appliances or on smart tvs themselves. Paramount Plus and
Discovery Plus along with
Magellan TV Documentaries are cases in point. All three have links and icons
that cannot be used well
with screen readers. We discovered this on the Apple TV, and on our Android
TV. We have not yet tried
them on the Fire TV Cube. Windows Narrator does very well with the Discovery
Plus App on the
Microsoft Xbox. Jaws for Windows also works well with Discovery Plus on the
desktop. Magellan TV
Documentaries fails big-time in the accessibility department on the devices
where we have used it.
Netflix works quite well on Apple TV, Android TV, and on the
Amazon Fire TV Cube. Neither
Netflix or Hulu work with Microsoft Narrator on the Xbox. The usability of
Apple TV Plus, Disney Plus,
PBS Video, VLC Media Player, and PBS Living is consistent across devices.
for those wishing to use apps such as Paramount Plus and
Discovery Plus you would do well to
subscribe to them within Prime Video. Since Prime Video runs on a wide
variety of devices and works
well with many screen readers and personal digital assistants going this
route will insure the consistency
of usability and accessibility of these apps on many devices and platforms.
There's a wide variety of apps
you can add to your Prime Video Subscription so check them out. We would
also recommend becoming
an Amazon Prime Customer as you will not only be able to take advantage of
various Prime Member
deals but will have access to a large catalogue of content from within the
Amazon Music and Prime
Video Apps and will receive a free Audible Credit each month. Happy App
surfing.
