Pam:
I looked up an article online about all this yesterday, and it seems like when you use the app, it shows a number of available cars near you on a map. That makes me wonder how visual the whole scheduling process is. I have an accessable smart phone that can do most of what I want it to do, but I still want to learn from other blind and low-vision people who have used one or both of these services, if possible. I really don't want to join any other blindness-related lists as the overall level of intelligence on so many of them is below my ability to tolerate for very long. But I will if I have to. After all, I can always unsubscribe. when I get what I need, but there's a part of me that feels bad for doing that.

We do have both Uber and Lyft in our area, but I'm sorry I can't share my experience since we have not yet used them. We have gotten the app on our phones, but have not used them yet. Both Uber and Lyft have apps for both IOS and Android devices. I am not aware of any other way to schedule a ride other than through these devices.

From what I understand, all contact, payment, etc. is done through the app. There does not seem to be a phone number to call.

I have heard good things about these services. A lot of blind people seem to take them and like them. We have gotten used to directly calling a few cab drivers who have really become friends, so that is why we haven't tried the ride sharing services yet.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Pam

Just so you know your message is here. Alas, I am in a city that cannot help you.
But I know you'll hear from the rank and file who have used these things.

This may seem somewhat off-topic for this list, but I don't think it is as transportation difficulties affect us all and the things we would like to do. In the part of Las Vegas where I live, Para Transit, a state-run ride-sharing services provided to those with disabilities, does not come to my door. The regulation states that those living more than a mile from the nearest public bus stop are outside the service area for the Para Transit system. So, I am hearing more and more about private ride-sharing services, such as Uber and Lift, and was wondering if anyone on list has any experience using them. If so, I'd like to hear what you think. I am often stuck here at home with these two loveable, adorable girls for several days at a time without the ability to go anywhere, especially when you consider the high heat where I live. If I had access to a private ride-sharing service, even though it's likely to cost more than a ride on Para Transit, it would be worth it to me. So, please, if any of you live in cities where Uber and Lift are available, and you have actually used them, please share your opinions and experiences here.
