We Get off to a fresh start as we meet the hosts, and do a recommendation for the week. We put in a plug for the Old Time Superman Podcast, hosted by Adam Graham. If you like good old fashioned, family friendly entertainment, but also like the kind of adventure found in old school comics, its worth checking out.

What's new with us? Nathan tells about a video he created. As with anything Nathan is doing, you can learn all the details on his web page. Facebook.com/protectorsofthebook/
Keith tells about the history of critter activity in the Church House. The latest fun involves birds, and snakes Maybe we ought to re-christen the place, Critter Castle. If
We also discuss movies, and whether they are generally accessible, or easy to follow for a blind person. Spectacular visuals, action, and sight gags don't work so well without audio descriptive tracks. Too bad there can't be a one button press to click description on and off. Other technology we mention that can give trouble for blind people, is the weird way Siri works on the iPhone.
Main Topic.
With Halloween being this week, we jump on the bandwagon of other Christian based podcasts to talk about it. To make it less topical, we spread it out to a general discussion of other religious holidays. All seem to have elements of pagan roots, that are cleaned up for Christianity.
After a trip down a short bunny trail, we get back to recommending ways to keep the holiday fun. There's nothing wrong with the move to harvest parties, and trunk or treat, in that they keep the fun in the celebration, and try to keep kids safe.
We share a few shoot from the hip reactions to our own feelings about Halloween, and other holidays. Basically, for us its all about the candy… or the presents… or the food… hey, I think I detect a theme here. Keith has a little background on the modern custom of Trick or Treat. It's a lot more modern, and less sinister than some people might think.
Granted, pagan customs can be pointed to as the core, but over the past hundred years, things have been greatly refined to make the holiday kid friendly. And the direction is to continue to make customs even more friendly with such things as Trunk or Treat.
Halloween, like other holidays has a blend of Christianity with old pagan activities, and some blend together better than others. The religious component to Halloween, or All Hallows Eve, is to honor the saints who have gone on to heaven, and are no longer with us. A memorial service of sorts. The pagan activities seem to be where the fun part of holidays comes from, no matter if its Halloween, or Easter, or Christmas.
We're all for celebrations and fun, and if a person can take the fun activity, and put the honor and glory towards God, then its a good thing.
We point to Colossians 2:16 as a precedent that it's the attitude in the heart that matters. A holiday, or any day holds teachable moments. Can everything be dressed up, and made honorable to God? Can there be teaching moments, or enactments of principles of what faith is all about? Certainly, some holidays fit better, and blend together well.
A holiday like Easter is clearly Christian, but other pagan celebrations coincidently exist. The boundary only blurs when we don't keep them separate.
After short hop down a bunny trail, we get back on track with a final word on support for keeping holidays fun. Customs keep evolving, and made safer for kids.
