The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people and keep the goods for
yourself." But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "With raised hand I have
sworn
an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will
accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal,
so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.'

When Abram made the statement, "I have lifted my hand to the LORD, God Most
High, Possessor of heaven and earth", Abram was countering the king of
Sodom's
exploitive offer with an allegiance to a different standard. Many people
think that making profit in any way is fine, but Abram was quick to point
out
that the true God was more interested in HOW Abram prospered. This is a rich
insight into God's nature. Are our profits coming at the expense of others,
or are we willing to take the high road and trust the God of the universe to
provide our needs?
