Yep, I don't think that a request to send a simple .zip file of an UMS
firmware is really all that difficult or big of a deal. Maybe if Darcy and
Holly ever get their iRiver tips and manual page going, i'm hoping they can
make the UMS firmware for he IFP models a little easier to find, and
provide instructions of upgrading the players to go along with it. This
way, when someone else gets one of these they can just go to the site,
follow the instructions, download the right stuff and they'll be good to go!
Hi Don. It seems to me that if you want them to email you a file, you should be able to get the file, and not a link to a list of files. This sounds ridiculous!

Subject: Iriver ums firm installation problems continue
Hello,
After talking with tech support from Iriver America a few moments ago, they indicate there are separate ums files for the 899 and the 799. They said they would email the file to me. In fact, what they did was to send an email containing a link which supposedly takes me to the page which contains the various ums files.
Believe me, this page is a real pain to navigate. I will phone them back and see if I can get them to actually email me the correct file.
Incidentally, the IFP8XXT.hex file was transferred to my 799 when I attempted the upgrade. But the 799 never did shut down after that. In fact, I had to go to safely remove hardware to disconnect it. I am truly frustrated at this point; although, fortunately the transfer software which came on the cd is still working. Incidentally, there is also supposed to be a "format button" on that file software. But I cannot find it either with Window Eyes or JFW.
