Hi Rusty,

As I understand the situation, there is a lot of choppiness and similarly undesirable effects when recording at the higher bit rates supported by the non-UMS firmware. This may be due to the iRiver's limited processing power.

Boy, this might be reason enough to go back to the original firmware.
The truth is that I've sent just as much music to my iriver using windows
media player as I have coppied to it in Windows explorer.
Media player isn't too bad. The trade off to e able to record in 320
bitrate, or soething higher than 96 might be worth it.

Any one have the old firmware just in case?

Thanks!
Rusty

Subject: Iriver Issues

I was talking to my friend Blair who bought an Iriver and he had some issues
with some stuff that the UMS Driver does to the unit. Apparently you loose
the ability to listen to ogg files when you install it. You are also limited
to 96k bit rate when you record with the UMS firmware, whereas the native
program allows you to record up to 320k. Are all of these issues true or are
they fixable? You also can't monitor the audio you record when you listen
with your headphones and you can not adjust the level of the audio when you
are recording with the microphone. These problems where there before he put
on the UMS Driver.

Please Help,
Byron
