IPODDER 2.1 OPTIONS QUESTION

I've been having a look around Preferences" within version 2.1 of iPodder,
and there's one area I can't quite figure out.
In the "Multi-Threading" tab there ARE two combo boxes, the second of which
seems to control how many podcasts are being downloaded simultaneously, its
the first OPTION I cant work out the use of.
Can someone more tuned in with iPodders workings please let me know what
this
first combo box controls?
