exactly, its people that kill people. and its being unarmed that lets them get killed more often than not.there are still places in the US where you can still carry a handgun on your belt, and I think you can imagine how much of the "I've got a gun!" type crime happens in those regions!, not much since if there's three or four folks about, your likely to be looking at 1 or two handguns, possibly a shotgun, and it's not unlikely a high powered rifle very quickly pointing back at you with folks telling you to put your pea shooter down, or else!
had a old partner of mine from Arizona that was involved in one such event, dude was running from a series of three robberies in cal, was running low on gas, and went through a small town in AZ. he decided he would hit the little stand alone bar at the end of town, and grab some "loose cash" to gas up with in the next town.
he stopped, went into the bar, pulled out his .38 special, and gave them the standard "stick um up" and leveled the gun, then herd several very distinctive clacking noises, as he whipped his head toward where those came from, he herd a couple more, and the dreaded ching ching of a pump shotgun, as the armed patrons informed him that he should put his toy down before he got very hurt!.
there were nine people in the bar, plus the bartender, and five of them including the bartender (shotgun) were armed, smile guess who went to jail that night.
