Technology is one of those areas where, when done right, your life can improve
exponentially. We believe the best technologies are those that respond to
real-world needs, and that provide solutions that make you more efficient in
your everyday life. This belief is a fundamental principle that guides all our
product design and development.
With this in mind, we’re proud to announce our latest round of updates to our
Horizon Kit and the Aira service.
What’s new with Horizon?
We recently launched version 1.3.35 of Horizon’s software. We listen to our
users to guide improvements, so we hope you’ll appreciate the new functionality
the update provides.
You can now read an entire document by saying “Read this document.” Chloe, our
AI assistant, will help you position a single document in the Horizon Phone’s
camera view, and when she sees all four edges, she will automatically snap a
picture and begin reading it to you. Right now, Chloe can only read single
documents – she’s not great at recognizing open books just yet.
In addition to being able to capture and read an entire document, we’ve
significantly improved spot reading with the “Read this” command. This
improvement means that Chloe can now read things much more accurately using the
Horizon Phone’s camera.
We’re currently running Chloe’s reading feature as a public beta and appreciate
your feedback as we improve her reading skills.
Have you ever wondered what free Aira Access offers are available? Well, now
you can ask Chloe. Just say, “Tell me about promotions, locations, or products”
or “Make an Aira Access call.” You can also ask Chloe to register you as a
business owner so you can take advantage of the Small Business Owners promotion.
On top of that, you can ask Chloe “Where is the nearest access location?” and
she’ll list out the five free access locations nearest to you.
When you walk into an Aira Access Location, you’ll know it. Chloe will not only
tell you that you’re in an Aira Access Location, but she will also share who is
sponsoring your minutes in that location.
The improvements keep going on! We’ve added some new Aira tones, improved the
flashlight’s stability, and vastly improved GPS location and accuracy.
At the express request of our Explorers, we’ve added a new feature that gives
you the ability to bypass feedback collection – all you have to do is press the
call button when Chloe asks for feedback. If you do decide to skip providing
feedback, please remember to rate your agents at a later point using the Aira
app on your smartphone; this gives us vital information that we use to improve
the service.
Remember, you can always ask Chloe what’s new. Feel free to visit the Horizon
page to download the manual and learn more about what you can do with your
Horizon Kit, and what you can ask Chloe.
What’s new with the agents?
Through the power of the Agent Dashboard, our agents are always gaining new
tools that empower them to provide the best service possible. Our agents can
now switch the camera feed from the smart glasses to the Horizon Phone camera
without you pulling the cable from the Horizon Phone.
Agents now have enhanced exposure control. In the past, looking at digital
screens proved to be challenging because of the light emanating from the
screen. However, agents can now increase or decrease the brightness of the
video feed, giving them the ability to describe dim or bright environments
better. Thanks to a new update to the service – and as suggested by our
Explorers – if you call back within two minutes of disconnecting or ending a
session, you will reconnect with the same agent as before. No more wasted
minutes explaining what you were doing!
Make sure you’re running the latest Horizon software
Horizon 1.3.35 is now live. If you have not received this update yet, there is
no action needed on your part. It can take up to 48 hours for the full
deployment to complete. You can expedite your Horizon update by connecting your
Horizon Kit to your home Wi-Fi (if available). To do this yourself, follow
these steps:
1. Using your iPhone or Android app, open the Wi-Fi settings by tapping the
Wi-Fi button in the My Glass tab on iOS, or the Wi-Fi option in the side menu
on Android.
2. Tap the add button to add a new Wi-Fi access point.
3. Type in the Wi-Fi’s name and password, and ensure the type is set to Wi-Fi
and not Hotspot.
4. After configuring this, you may need to reboot your Horizon Phone by holding
down the power button on the side and pressing and holding it again to restart
the phone.
5. You can validate that you are connected to Wi-Fi by tapping the call button
to hear the Horizon Kit’s status. It will say “Battery X% connected to Aira via
Wi-Fi.”
Thank you for your feedback
As 2018 comes to a close, we want to say thank you for your feedback. Your
valuable input guides the improvements we make, because, at the end of the day,
Aira is about making you the most efficient and independent person you can be.
Thanks for a fantastic year – let’s get ready for an incredible 2019.
