Well, if you're not interested in any of his on-line discussion groups and
you see all of them announced on 4 different lists, it's justs plain
annoying. And now, not only does he post these things, but he has other
people posting the same things so it isn't just a question of deleting a
post when you see his name. And the fact is that people who are interested
in the programs, can sign up to receive the announcements directly. There
must be 4 or 5 book discussions each week plus tech talk plus announcements
when each of these things are archived so it's just a lot of clutter, along
with all the other clutter. I'm glad to know that he's actually doing good
for some people now because he has a somewhat checkered past.

Hi Miriam,
Helping Hands was extremely generous to yours truly. I have a quad core
processor, 8 gigs of RAM and one TB of hard drive along with MSOffice 2010.
He even included an hour of labor so that when I brought the PC home, JAWS
and Office were already installed. IF your PC is on its last legs, I'd
contact Helping Hands.
I hope you don't think that I've been co-opted by Mr. Acosta.
And, what is so annoying about repeated announcements from a charity that
does good work? Far less annoying than all those askes for money from
politicians.
By the way, I am not one to jump on the latest technologies. Until I got my
iPhone 5, I was using a 7-year-old flip-style phone. I have no desire to get
an Apple watch. I tend to use devices until they are all used up before
getting a newer one. I'd say if more Americans would choose that way of
obtaining technologies, we'd be living a more sustainable lifestyle.

Bob,

The people on the lists appear to get every new thing that comes out. It
just amazes me. I am interested to know what Helping Hands does for people
and what they do to get the help. I'm interested because I find Robert
Acosta's numerous announcements of all his on line discussion groups
repeated on almost every blindness list I'm on, incredibly annoying. And
when some of us have complained and suggested that one combined announcement
might be enough and that he does have his own announcements for which people
can sign up, we have been scolded by moderators. I've wondered what the deal
is. But if some of those moderators have actually gotten stuff from Acosta's
organization, I can understand what is happening.

Hi Miriam,
Well, let me venture as to how folks who are unemployed or under-employed
manage to obtain technology.
1. Go to organizations like helping hands for the Blind. That's where I went
when my old clunker was about to bite the dust.
Make a case to a VR agency to purchase or help purchase technology. I've
gone that route in the past.
Use of credit, very common for too many Americans who hold too much debt. I
used to be in that group as well and if I'm not careful, I could get back
there again.
Some are using very old equipment and getting buy wiht that.
Finally, some get help from friends and family to buy the tech.
Bob
