Ah Carl, if I could, I'd absorb your contentment. If you could bottle it and
sell it, you could make a fortune in our capitalist system. (smile)

My advice is to not look at the end of the tunnel.
Long ago I got over the idea that we were winning or losing. That focuses our
attention and effort on winning. The real answer is to simply live the life we
believe. My dream is of having a life where we all have our needs and wants
met. There's plenty enough to keep us busy in the Present, without fretting
over the distant future. What if our universe exists as the result of some
cosmic explosion, and even as we travel through space we are cooling down? In
Earth Time it will be billions of years, but the end will come when the
universe is a cold, dark place. Mankind will be just a blip in that long
cooling down.
But meanwhile we have our hands full of these little tin soldiers, strutting
and bullying. Most of my energy has been spent in work with the blind. Plenty
of room to advance all of my Progressive beliefs.
And as long as I can remember my name, and how to turn on my computer, I'll be
content.
Carl Jarvis, happily adjusting to Life.

That is one of the big issues. It's the reason that I question whether
we can ever have meaningful political change. Think about it. The
Socialist Workers' Party has been in existence since at least the
1930's, and not only do they have this tiny membership, but they're
not even on the ballot anywhere. And there are at least a half dozen
other socialist parties, along with the Green Party which is now, as far as I
can tell, a socialist party.
And we have a country run by an oligarchy and a majority of the people
who have any political interest at all, have been propagandized by the
mainstream media. We have immigrants, many of them citizens, who live
in their own cultural bubbles, untouched by anyone's organizing. I
see little light at the end of the tunnel.

I can present and defend my beliefs...to my satisfaction. But the
presentations and defenses presented by others, seldom brings about a
change in my thinking.

The lists are, I suppose, a sample of the opinions of US citizens.
The reason we got stuck on the subject of children's books is that I
made a comment on Nolan's comment without specifically saying it was
his comment. He was saying that he resented, "slogging through", all
those titles of books in foreign languages, but apparently, it didn't
bother him to "slog through"
titles of books that were obviously aimed at elementary school age
children.
Nolan loves reading books about the second world war. Lots of people do.
They see the Nazis as the villains, but Lana was channeling Donald
Trump when she began talking about people from other countries
running for congress who don't respect America. And Gerald is Jewish
and lives in New York City. One would think that he'd know better
than to complain about foreign language books. I've corresponded with
him privately. He's a loyal Democrat. I'm sure that he is also a
loyal Israel supporter. Lana said to me that she and I disagree
because we are getting our news from different sources. There you
are. Alternative facts!
