Dear Carl, I am sad to hear of Sue's death. We got to know one another
better a few years ago when I publicized her successful advocacy with
the American Cancer Society. Just about single-handedly, Sue convinced
them, and others, to make their printed materials related to breast
cancer, its treatments, and coping skills available in braille. She
did all of this while she was coping with treatment for breast cancer
herself. We enjoyed working with one another, and we have kept in
touch -- but not nearly enough -- over the succeeding years. I liked
and admired Sue. She was an excellent advocate, and her work will live
on, not only with respect to the braille breast cancer materials that
are now available to any blind woman with breast cancer who needs
independent access to that information, but also with respect her her
work on the ADA and innumerable other projects that have made our
lives and the lives of people with other kinds of disabilities better.

president, Sue Ammeter.
We will know more details later, but we do know that Sue died in her
sleep, quite suddenly in the early hours of Saturday morning. Sue had

Known and respected for her years of leadership both within Washington
State, and throughout the Nation, Sue's death leaves a huge hole, torn

Friends, on a personal note, this is so hard for me to write. I never
would have believed that one so tough as Sue would leave us at such an
early age. Sue has been my friend for the past 50 years, and while I
will miss her wise leadership in her years of Work With the Blind, I
will miss her mostly as my dear friend.
