Dear Mark,
Though I’ve sent you the minutes of the ADA 25 event “Accommodations
sub-committee” before as well as other information related to the fact I was a
part
of the event I’m enclosing after my signature line just the March 2015 minutes
as proof that I was indeed a part of the event and thus had every right
to participate in it.
This sub-committee was headed by Norm Delisle of the Michigan Disability Rights
Coalition which was one of the major components of this event along with
state sponsers like the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council and the
Michigan Department of Civil Rights/ADA Compliance office.
Now, while others with MDRC were allowed to go back and forth and around the
barriers and MSP with impunity I was simply told, and not even directly but
through Elenor, “don’t go beyond the Austin Blair Statue” with no reasons, just
commands.
Regardless, this is ample proof that I was a part of the event itself and had
every right to attend it.

Accommodations Subcommittee Meeting
March 9, 2015
Attendees: Joe Harcz, Bree Austin Roberts, Gary Kidd, Norm DeLisle
We reviewed the following accommodations for inclusion in the event:
? CART: We have a provider for the event. We discussed the many things
that can go wrong. We will be projecting CART onto a screen in the shade or
under a tent. We will work to provide the transcriber with all the names, and
print versions of the speeches that we can. If everything goes well, we will
also have a transcript for use after the event.
? Large print: Currently, all distributed documents will be printed in
24 pt. font for use at the event.
? Audio alternatives: All distributed documents will be converted to mp3
files. The files will be posted on a website for download.
? Braille: MDRC will produce braille versions of distributed documents.
Joe told the committee about state government resources for producing Braille,
Audio, and Large print if we run into problems.
? Interpreters: we don’t have this pinned down yet. Bree offered to get
us a contact from the GR area to access local interpreter resources.
? Service Dog Relief Area: This is a part of the contract with the
Capitol event management system.
? Portajohns: Wheelchair accessible johns are a part of the event
management system
? Ramp for the speaker platform: One exists and is probably a part of
the event management system
? Volunteer guide corps: volunteers to assist participants in finding
locations that are a part of the event must be recruited, trained, and available
on the day of the event. No additional work has been done on this item yet.
? Marketing of, and registration for, accommodations will need to
include an online form whose address is on every printed and alternative format
event items. The registrations will serve as a ballpark estimate for need. But
those accommodations that are products will need to be created in excess
of the registered need.
? Norm will try to find out if there is a way to get 3D printed raised
character and braille signage to use as an experiment at the event. Joe will
pass on the ADA standard for raised character and braille signage to Norm.
In addition, Joe will pass on event materials to newsline to improve outreach
to people with visual impairments. Bree will pass on Todd Culver’s email since
the one Norm has bounced.
Norm will pass on the results of the next steering committee meeting discussion
of the planning for event accommodations.
