Off the top of my head, what I recall from reading the "truth" in our
daily papers, and viewing the Korean "Conflict" on my little black and
white 13 inch TV, we did sweep up the Korean Peninsula, but were
driven back by the entrance of the Chinese troops. I remember looking
at their funny padded uniform coats, and the hats with the squarish
ear flaps. And I recall General Douglas MacArthur chomping at the
bit, wanting to take on the Chinese, after having met several defeats
at their hands. President Truman, who had previously applauded
MacArthur's skill as a general...when he was winning...relieved him of
his command on April 11, 1951. That was 2 days prior to my 16th
birthday, and one day shy of six years since the death of FDR. I
remember all the flap over that decision. Although I seldom find
anything good to say about President Harry S. Truman, I did applaud
his firing of the arrogant Douglas MacArthur. The other two positive
memories of old "Give 'em Hell Harry" were his two sayings, "The Buck
Stops Here", and "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the
kitchen".
Beyond that, Truman continued playing footsie with Roosevelt's
Dixicrats, looking the other way as Southern Blacks were persecuted
and murdered.
But hey!, according to Donald Trump, we should all keep our mouths
shut and Pledge Allegiance to that Freedom Flag that flies over the
heads of Black and Brown Americans as they are being driven back into
the slums and ghettos of Inner Cities, as part of Trump's plan to
"return America to her former Greatness".
