Carl sad how workers are considered expendable liabilities now. Last year I was
the victim of an assault on the job. After three weeks out I ran out of
sick/personal time and went back to work to avoid going off the payroll. My
doctor wanted me out 3 months. If I were to have gone off the payroll I could
have been fired after 3 absences, and I would have lost my health insurance. If
my ugly appearance with my neck brace and arm sling on at work offended the
bosses then too darn bad. Speaking of health insurance I just picked up my meds
today at CVS and the co-pay was $192 of which $165 was the co-pay for the
cholesterol meds I am on. Remember that it was cholesterol meds that caused my
mother to have renal failure and eventually die (Baycol). Amazing what we pay
to have big pharma kill us.

This article points to the fact that we are in a world-wide struggle between
the basic needs of the People and the Profits of the Wealthy.
Here in our area, on the Olympic Peninsula, we see the continuous degrading of
the Working Class. We ordered a tool shed. The 250 pound shed was loaded onto
a 28 foot truck, loaded with other large items. We had contacted the company
and told them that large trucks could not come down our private road. We heard
nothing back. The large truck arrived. With much jockeying, the driver
finally positioned the truck. He was alone. The shed was not on the end of
his load, so he had to juggle several large containers around in order to tug
out our shed. It slipped, pinning him to the floor of the truck. The driver
was not seriously injured but we suggested that we could sign a report, if he
wished to file a grievance. He said the boss would simply fire him if he filed
a written complaint. He had seen other drivers get the boot as a result of
filing a complaint. He needed the work. It was about Noon, and this driver
still had to drive over two hours out to Forks, return by way of Port Townsend,
and then be back by quitting time in Tacoma, which was another two hours from
here. No way could he make the trip, much less deliver the freight. He said
he knew that it could not be done, but the boss would not pay overtime when he
dropped the truck off.

London ‘tube’ drivers strike against unsafe trains

LONDON — Hundreds of London Underground “tube” drivers — members of
the Rail, Maritime and Transport and the Associated Society of
Locomotive Steam Enginemen and Firemen unions — took 24-hour strike
action March 23. Pickets at the Arnos Grove depot, above, spoke of
company harassment and intimidation and unsafe trains. There has been
a rise in disciplinary action, pickets told the Militant.
“There are serious questions over the safety of the aging fleet on the
Piccadilly line in terms of braking systems, wheel flats and brake
operation” a union spokesperson said in January. The union has
insisted for years that the 40-year-old trains — known as “1973 stock”
— are dangerous.
For example, the door on a moving train with passengers flew open Jan.
16. The RMT said there had been four similar incidents in preceding weeks.
The company claimed the door opening was an “isolated incident.” But
the BBC reported two doors opened on a moving train in October 2013.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport union plans further stoppages on
April 19 and 21.
