Hi Miriam,
While I agree with a good bit of what Mackler has to say here, I sincerely
believe that Sanders was and is working to better the lives of the bottom 50
percent of income earners. I agree with you that Sanders believes that working
within the system is the best way to win some real change. But I think we were
all pretty sure that sanders would throw his support to Clinton in the end.
Also, Sanders support for much of our current foreign policy does not fit in
well with the change he says he wants.
Seems to me, the bottom line is how much change do we want and what are we
prepared to risk to implement such change? No doubt that the two parties in
power now will fight tooth and nail to hold onto that power in the face of any
others no matter what their party. I believe that if, let's say, Jill Stein or
Alyson Kennedy were ever able to mount a serious threat to the establishment,
we'd see some mighty ugly behavior and possibly violence perpetrated by the
leadership of both parties against that threat. Until and unless we can reverse
the Cittizens VS. United decision, I don't think we'll see the kind of change
that you and I might like.
