I can't tell which author you're referring to, because you didn't include
the original message to which you're replying. But I guess I have something
to say about Obama and the Democrats. I certainly agree that the
Republicans' behavior over the last 8 years has been shameful. And their
current justification for how they handled the Supreme Court nomination is
more than hypocritical. It's also clear that none of their actions have been
taken to benefit real people. Everything they do, is done to benefit
themselves and the corporations and Hedge Fund owners who fund them. That
being said, the Democrats, although they are certainly more humane on LGBT
rights and women's issues, and although their rhetoric is more humane in
general, have, in fact continued and expanded on Bush's war policies. They
have been terrible in terms of the deportation of immigrants, civil
liberties, imprisoning whistle blowers, and expanding the security state.
They gave support to Israel during the summer of 2014 while Israel was
slaughtering Gazans. They supported giving more than 4 billion dollars in
military aid to Israel each year so it can continue its genocidal actions.
Obama increased the budget for nucleaer expansion. He approved some
pipelines and he approved drilling for oil off our coasts. And he did
compromise with Republicans when it was unnecessary. He also through away
the opportunity for real help to people after the 2008 crash when he was
elected and had a Democratic majority in both houses. The Democratic Party
establishment is responsible for the Republican wins, as far as I'm
concerned, and for Trump's presidency. The Democrats took the votes of
working people for granted. It thought that with a lot of money and fancy
manipulation, it could win elections without actually taking the wishes of
voters into account. When Bill Clinton moved the party to the right in order
to compete with Republicans, rather than moving to the left and insisting on
a program to benefit poor and working people, when he chose mass
incarceration and globalization as the path to power and wealth, over his
responsibility as a Democratic leader, he destroyed whatever remnants of
good existed in the Democratic party. And I'm not sure how good the party
ever was, given its propensity for war, starting with Korea and continuing
to this day.

Considering that the Republicans spent the last four years obstructing
everything Mr. Obama tried to do as President, even the confirmation of a
Supreme Court Justice for the very seat Gorsuch is accepting, I find this
author's arguments to be specious.
