True. There is no simple solution. My flip answer about isolating a
gene was...well, was a flip answer. In fact, I agree that there must
be some basic programming that has caused us to behave the way we do.
Protecting ourselves and our families and our tribes would not have
happened if we did not have such traits. But in today's world it
seems to me that we need to find ways of modifying our behavior. How
much longer can we arm ourselves and do battle with another group of
people over some imagined differences? How much more of our
pollutants will our planet endure before we all die of the poisons
we're pumping out? How many more years can we pretend to dominate
this planet until it shows us who is actually in control?
In my story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden, Earth is the
Garden and Adam and Eve have cloned themselves about 8 or 9 billion
times. In my Eden, two trees grew side by side. The Tree of
Knowledge and the Tree of Wisdom. Early on, Eve plucked the fruit of
the nearest tree and passed it off to Adam. It turned out to be the
fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Adam ate the fruit and looked about
himself with new eyes, seeing all the potential that existed in the
Garden.
"The first thing we gotta do", he told Eve, "is to chop down this
other tree. It's blocking the view, and after we have more people, we
can sell it off for a higher price".
So between them they cut down the mighty Tree of Wisdom and used it
for fire wood, once they had invented fire. Armed with the Fruit of
the Tree of Knowledge, Adam and Eve and their spawn grew and
prospered. They were not the biggest, nor the most ferocious, nor the
fastest, nor the strongest creatures in the Garden, but they were the
smartest. And so it came to pass that without Wisdom, Adam and Eve
used their Knowledge to figure out how to make the Garden safe for
Humans. Things went along pretty good for several thousands of years,
right up to the Industrial Age. Humans had become so clever that they
were moving toward total control of Eden and even the Space outside
the Garden. But without Wisdom they did not understand that Eden had
limits on its Natural Resources. As modern day Adam and Eve drained
the land of its natural resources, and the air became foul, and the
water became poisoned, and the climate began to create monster heat
waves and huge storms, the likes of which no one had ever seen before,
and as food and water became scarce and all the plentiful life that
once roamed Eden disappeared, hunger and thirst became the constant
companions of the residents in Eden.
And Lo, Adam and Eve were cast from the Garden of Eden, and forced to
wander in the Darkness.

another. Don't you think that the fact of its existence has something to do
with human nature? And part of human nature is the interaction of our

It seems to me that the Ruling Class has controlled the direction of our
human interaction, by dividing us in order to manage us more easily. I
can't say that it is something that preexisted what we call "civilization",
because the Ruling Classes down through our history have used division,
violence and negative reinforcement as their primary tools. If we do find
that hidden in our gene pool are traits that cause us to turn on those we
deem different, then we need to isolate them and breed them out of future
generations. If not, then we are doomed to repeat over and over again the
same mistakes.

It appears we have entered the eve of a Trump administration.
Trump rode workers' anger at capitalism's last 40 years: record
profits from lost jobs, incomes, security and public services. For
change, they voted down GOP and Dem establishments. But the system
won't let Trump bring change. There lies our opportunity.
The endless election effort is finally over (even as the next one
begins to be planned by the candidates and their monied supporters).
Now the nation confronts its fundamental problems after so many were
swept under the rug by the "major candidates" in this election's long
exercise in mass distraction. The time lost, like the campaigns'
billions, could better have gone toward solving those problems. They
just got worse during that time.
The world remains in the aftermath of the crash of 2008 - the second
global capitalist crash in 75 years - and most economists expect
another downturn within the next 6-18 months. Especially because the
current post-2008 crash originated in the US with the sub-prime
mortgage collapse, the US has special responsibilities to deal with
its economic instability and its global ramifications. Yet neither
