On Tuesday night Donald Trump sparked further division and hatred at a
campaign rally in Phoenix, AZ.
In a bizarre series of rants and ravings, Trump:
* Tried to pretend his press conference defending white supremacists at
Charlottesville never happened and blamed the media for everything.
* Hinted at a future pardoning of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio who
was found in criminal contempt for racial profiling.
* Threatened to shut down the government to build his border wall.
* Complained about the treatment of CNN contributor Jeffrey Lord who was
fired for tweeting out the Nazi phrase, “Sieg Heil".
Trump has proved he would rather tear this country apart than govern it.
Democracy for America was one of the first organizations to call for
Trump’s impeachment -- gathering nearly 100,000 signatures -- and we are
just getting started.

A growing and record breaking percentage of the American people agree --
Trump is unfit to serve. His bigoted actions, blatant profiteering and the
Mueller investigation have caused an astonishing 40% of Americans to
support impeachment, a huge 10% jump from the last survey in February.
Momentum for impeachment is growing on Capitol Hill as well. Progressive
champion Rep. Maxine Waters, the ranking Democrat of the House Financial
Services Committee, has led the charge for impeachment for months, and
renewed those calls last week, saying that given what she’s seen, Trump
should be first, and Vice President Mike Pence must be next.
DFA-endorsed progressive powerhouse Rep. Pramila Jayapal introduced a
formal resolution to censure Trump over his comments on Charlottesville.
It’s an important step in organizing towards impeachment and is quickly
gathering support with more than 79 cosponsors.
Meanwhile, Ranking Member of the Constitution and Civil Justice
subcommittee Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee announced this week that he
would formally begin impeachment proceedings, saying:
"The President said ‘there were very fine people on both sides.’ There
are no good Nazis. There are no good Klansmen…[Trump] has failed the
presidential test of moral leadership."
Even stalwart Republicans are starting to have their concerns. A bombshell
story from the New York Times reports Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has
doubts that Trump’s administration can be salvaged.
The constant state of turmoil caused by this administration is staggering
-- with each day bringing a new scandal or insult. He’s losing allies by
the minute, and we can’t let up the drumbeat of pressure now.
