This has to be one of the most cynical policies I've ever heard of. Here is
what I predict if this damned thing passes. While the big guys like
Wall-Mart will whine as they feel a little pinch, many of the smaller
retailers that now accept SNAP may decide to leave the program. I think
we've all read articles that describe grocery store ghettos. They are the
same places where many of our poorest residents live. These neighborhoods
have lots of liquor and convenience stores and very few grocery stores. It
doesn't take an Einstein to figure out how this crap will impact these
neighborhoods. Folks who live in such places will find it harder and harder
to use their SNAP benefits.
IF I were a recruiter for ISIS or a similar group, I'd keep this in mind as
I develop my recruiting strategy. Finally, voting turnout in these
neighborhoods is very low so most politicians don't care much about them. IN
a just nation, the mainstream media should be giving this story much more
airplay. Heck, all they have to do is concentrate a bit less on the Russia
investigation. Yes, that's an important story, but it shouldn't crowd out
stories like this one.
