Hi Miriam,
IMHO, this is what happens when a society is in decay. I'm talking about the
kind of decay wherein citizens devolve into mere consumers out for
themselves as the common good either takes a back seat or disappears
completely. Such a society grasps for simplistic sollutions that look like
good ideas at first glance but are not so.
For many Americans, it seems easier to resort to military options rather
than take a good hard look at how we got where we are. So, instead of
continuing policies such as drone strikes, the insertion of special forces
and extraordinary rendition, we ought to be taking a good hard look at why
groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS are able to recruit not only folks from the
Middle East but from European and American citizens. WE need to be doing
what we can to reduce poverty here and abroad. WE need to stop supplying
weapons to Israel and Saudi Arabia. That is how we should fight terrorism.
