Carl,

What you heard this morning, sounds like the same case that the article
describes. I'll forward the article to you privately, if I find it. Yes,
this man's treatment is similar to the way some travelers are treated by US
officials. However, there is a harsh arbitrariness to the treatment which
seems a bit more extreme to me. That is because he is an American citizen
and he was traveling to Palestine to meet a Priest and participate in some
kind of Christian meeting. The Israelis discounted his American citizenship
and his main reason for traveling to Palestine. They responded only to his
Palestinian ancestry and to the fact that he would be visiting some family
members while in Palestine. Somewhere, I have a very long article about an
Israeli older man who lived in Paris, and who returned to Israel to visit
his family. The article is written by his daughter and describes the
arbitrary and inhumane way that he is treated by medical professionals and a
hospital when he becomes ill while in Israel. The article includes an
analysis of why Israeli society is so harsh and uncaring. Even though the
two situations are very different, the harsh nature of Issraeli society is
the same in both descriptions.

I don't see your original post, and I read so many notes regarding the
cruel, inhuman behavior by Israeli an military personnel that they all run
together in one big sewer. This morning I listened to Flash Point and an
interview with a professor from California who is an American Citizen of
Palestinian heritage. He calmly described the nightmare that unfolded
around him when he attempted to visit Jerusalem.
Between the hostile questioning, the many delays, the loss of his luggage,
the routing him from one destination to another at his own expense, and
above all it was done with cold indifference to him as a human being.
The tragedy goes beyond this one man's unbelievable experience, including
the fact that no American Official stepped in to assist this Citizen, but
the fact is that his treatment is no different than what American Officials
are doing to people looking for safety in our nation.
Israel and America have developed this super superior attitude. We can do
as we please. In the case of America, we can because no one can stop us.
In the case of Israel, they live under the sacred protection of the American
Empire.
Stop and look at our history, even that history which we have sanitized.
Tell me how America and Israel are different than the oppressive rule by the
British Empire, or of any of histories conquering hordes? After studying
our human history, tell me where we have progressed toward a higher
civilization. I contend that we are the same base, hairy brute who crawled
out of the cave looking for something to club. Where we are improved is in
our tools of destruction. We are becoming super skilled in spying on one
another and eliminating any who stand in the Empire's way. We certainly
have become highly skilled in the destruction of all natural resources,
felling forests faster than ever before, pumping the Earth empty of her oil,
turning our planet's water into sewer slop, poisoning the land and air,
wiping out species of flora and fauna at alarming speeds, and turning human
beings into slave labor.
Think of what this planet was like a mere 100 years ago. Imagine what it
will be like in 100 years in the future.

I posted the story to give people an idea of the kinds of things that
happen on a daily basis to Palestinians in Israel, let alone the West
Bank and Gaza. I am on several email lists, one from Israel and one
from a Palestinian human rights organization, as well as one from an
Israeli human rights organization, and I read Mondoweiss. Every day,
there are reports of Palestinians being jailed or killed. Almost every
day, there are reports of more Palestinian homes being stolen from
their owners by Jewish settlers.
And I've read stories, similar to this one, about what happens to
people at Ben Gurion Airport.

Hi Miriam,
Despicable behavior here on the part of Israeli jack-booted thugs.
Behavior worthy of the Nazi Gestapo. What a bunch of raving
hypocrites. And to think, our tax dollars assist these bastards.
