In racist America, police and police-related murders of unarmed Blacks
are tragically routine. Cop murders of unarmed Black people take place
on average at least one per day. Only a tiny few of these racist cop
murderers are ever brought to trial, and even fewer are convicted.
Say their names! George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Manuel
Ellis, Philando Castile, Oscar Grant, Dontre Hamilton, Jamar Clark, Eric
Garner, Michael Brown, John Crawford, Tanisha Anderson, Tamir Rice. And
thousands more. All murdered by police.
In our profit-first, people-last society, the role of the police is to
protect the private property of the 1%, and to control and repress the
99% who resist. African Americans, Latinx, Native Americans, immigrants,
women and LGBTQ+ experience this organized repression every day — job
opportunities, equal pay, housing, health care, education, in every
aspect of their lives. The big business oligarchs embrace racism and
all forms of bigotry because they are highly profitable.
The COVID-19 PANDEMIC and RACISM
These powerful protests against racism and cop violence are happening
amidst another crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic. Who is suffering the most
— with the highest incidence of confirmed cases and deaths and the
highest per capita job loss? The same people who bear the brunt of
police violence, especially the youth.
These massive protests today are challenging the institutionalized
racist violence in America. Our opponents are a well-organized machine
composed of the mass media, the repressive organs of the government —
laws, courts, police, prisons, etc. — and the smooth-talking apologists
of the twin parties of big business, the Democrats and the Republicans.
The millions in the streets now are a harbinger of the broad and united
mobilizations that have the potential of posing a challenge to this
oppressive, racist, violent system of capitalism.
Cops out of our neighborhoods! Black community control of police!
Defund the cops!
Right of self-defense for oppressed communities! End the racist violence!
Drop all charges against protesters! Free them now! Stay in the streets!
End the raids and deportations!
Jobs and justice for all! Free healthcare for all! For an
eco-socialist green new deal!
For a fighting workers’ party! No support to Democrats or Republicans!

Carl Sagan
“Every aspect of Nature reveals a deep mystery and touches our sense of wonder
and awe. Those afraid of the universe as it really is, those who pretend to
nonexistent knowledge and envision a Cosmos centered on human beings will
prefer the fleeting comforts of superstition. They avoid rather than confront
the world. But those with the courage to explore the weave and structure of the
Cosmos, even where it differs profoundly from their wishes and prejudices, will
penetrate its deepest mysteries.”
