I've been in European cities where traveling with a cane, back in the 80's and
90's, would have been rather risky. It depends on the built environment and
also, on the traffic patterns. There were urban areas in Italy and Spain where
streets are narrow, like alleyways, and where cars and motorcycles are parked,
partly on sidewalks, and where cars and cycles zoom through streets with little
concern for traffic rules. And traveling in cities in China would be really
hard because when I was there, motorists didn't really pay attention to traffic
lights and because the streets were so incredibly crowded. And in Asia, again,
it depends on which cities and which parts of cities one is in.

Ancient cities and towns that were designed for donkey carts and foot
traffic, are far too crowded and narrow to accommodate the modern
traffic flow, let alone to be safe for blind people to travel alone.
Even in cities like Seattle, auto traffic has become so heavy that
traveling with a white cane is risky.
Another factor in the mix is age. At 82 I do not have the agility I
had at 32. And general health has to be considered.
Still, I teach cane travel to older clients. But it is "safe" cane
travel. In fact, we provide far more white support canes than we
provide travel canes. Older people tend to not travel far from home
alone. The support cane is white, giving others the information that
the user is visually impaired, and it gives the user the stability
that has diminished with age. Working with older blind and low vision
folks involves many additional disabilities. Balance may be
compromised. Hearing loss. Reflexes may be slow.
When I was first blind, 53 years ago, I had better than average
hearing. I was 30 years old and used to hard work. I could walk all
day and not tire. My travels took me around Seattle, across the
United States and in cities such as Washington D.C., Los Angeles, New
York, Chicago, among many. Also I learned to wander among the back
roads and small towns. Here in the Olympic National Forest, I still
walk along deer trails and old logging roads. But today I use two
long poles instead of my trusty white travel cane.
While I tend to agree with you that many of the conditions in your
part of the world are not conducive to travel alone, by blind people,
still I would not rule it out. Teaching your blind children to be
self assured and confident, is important. Being bold and blind may
have some risks, but being timid and blind most likely will make life
impossible for the children as they grow up. Life is filled with
risks and challenges. Learning to face them and to control them
should be the goal, not teaching them how to avoid the risks.

used or are using white canes for primarily pedestrian travelling. What is
it like using a white cane in your local residence? Is it safe to walk with
a cane? Is it safe to independently cross the street with a cane? Here in
Egypt, canes are widely known and easily obtained. However, the problem here
is, streets aren't often safe to crosss them on your own. They're just too
busy and walking through the pavement isn't necessarily convenient for
pedestrians, even espied ones. I personally, did not encounter with blind
individuals who may genuinely rely on their canes for essentially
orientation and mobility aims. I usually walk with sighted company. Even if
I am using my cane, still, streets aren't safe to get around. But, if I
happened to be enclosed in a compound, I might be urged to severally trust
travelling safely with a cane. I think, this might be an intriguing subject
to broadly discuss. I advocate and train blind children on using their
canes. I just wish we had securer neighbourhoods for pedestrian travellers
and bicyclists.

fortunately logged in again. I then looked at the description of the

just received and it said it was from Washington D.C.. Does the States
Capital occupy corporal establishments?

suspended. Consequently, I had to verify my identity. Well, at least,

is what Google asked me to do. I want to Gmail.com, entered my account

credentials in addition to my cell number and hit enter. I chose
receiving a
verification code via SMS. I repeated this process three times this
morning
and unfortunately, an SMS hasn't been sent. I then had to go to work.
When I
got home, I attempted to walk through the same process again. Well,
this
time, I chose receiving an automated voice call. Once I hit receive a
verification code button, my cellphone rang. I answered and found an
automated lady, greeting me, telling me that the following
verification
greeting is exclusively given to me by Google for the purpose of
reactivating my account and it therefore shouldn't be shared with any
third
party. I entered the verification code as it was said and hit enter. I
fortunately logged in again. I then looked at the description of the
call
I
just received and it said it was from Washington D.C.. Does the States
Capital occupy corporal establishments?

abuse. Sexual abuse is always a dis tractor. Remember how exposing
the naughty priests changed the entire Catholic Church? No? Well
that is how much the current attack on prominent political leaders
and
actors and producers and Wall Street Macho Men will end up. Like the
old shell game, distraction is the name of the game. And boy, are we
being distracted.
Like I said, if this were truly the beginning of a serious change in
our Eternal nature, then it would be worth all the willy nilly finger

I don't think it's concerning. Their Headquarters might be where you
mentioned but, they may have technical departments and call centres

the country. Their automated voice call doesn't need someone to pick

phone and make a call. Google is a vast company and it must have

party. I entered the verification code as it was said and hit enter. I
fortunately logged in again. I then looked at the description of the
call
I
just received and it said it was from Washington D.C.. Does the States
Capital occupy corporal establishments?

that is how much the current attack on prominent political leaders

being distracted.
