By the way, I suppose this was meant as a bit of humor. I forget where I came across this. It was somewhere in my browsing of the Internet yesterday. It was in reference to president Obama meeting the pope. It said: This is an historic event. Two men are meeting. One of them has millions of followers who think he is infallible. The other one is Pope Francis.

Hi Miriam,
I too was raised Catholic. I received my first communion at six, took
catechism classes and was confirmed at 14. I attended a Jesuit university.
None of the priests I knew were associated with the horrible sex scandalls
and none of the Jesuits I knew at boston College were drunks so far as I
knew.
But I had serious doubts about Catholic teachings ever since I was 8 years
old and told never to eat meat on Fridays during lent.
While my church was rather progressive, I do recall the lecturing sermons
about the evils of fornication and physical relations with the same sex. By
senior year of high school, I stopped attending church regularly. While at
Boston College, I think I attended a total of 5 masses. . I will give the BC
Jesuits credit for encouraging debate and free thinking.
I often hear folks proclaim themselves to be "recovering Catholics." I am
fully recovered and am thus a rebelled Catholic. However, if I had been
subjected to pedofile priests as a kid, I imagine my recovery would have
been long and painful. Cardinal Law, who presided over much of the mess in
Boston now lives a very comfortable life in Rome. I often refer to him as
Cardinal Outlaw.
