Well, if you're in Arizona, you should get an earful.

Miriam,
Mostly we will be seeing like minded folks...with two exceptions. Our nephew
teaches at Merced College, and for some ungodly reason is a moderate
conservative. I may get a little insight, as long as I listen and keep my own
biases inside my head. Then my sister, who is a moderate progressive, in Sun
City, Arizona, we will need to endure her eldest son who is visiting at the
same time. This not so young man, sixty years old, has about the reddest neck
I've ever seen. A lover of Trump. He has practiced the worst of Trump long
before Trump groped his first breast(boob). A sexist, a racist, a NRA long
time member and a first class womanizer. Let's see, did I leave any of his
qualities out?
But his mother(my baby sister) loves him, and so my lips will be sealed.
Besides, we arrive late Monday and he leaves early Wednesday.
But other than that, we will keep our antennas up as we dine or mill about some
historical sites. I am a committed people listener. I can easily track two
conversations at the same time, and sort them out for Cathy, later. From my
sister's we will head to Sedona. My former boss, Shirley Smith lives there.
We managed to become good friends while she was my boss from 1982 until I
retired at the end of 1993.
She retired in 1999 and eventually settled in Sedona, when she's not on some
world tour. She's a dozen years older than Cathy, but they've become fast
friends, too.
From there it's forward and upward to Flagstaff for a couple of days, touring
whatever is tourable there. Maybe by then I'll be getting used to my laptop,
and I'll give a "hello" from the Grand Canyon.
There are some historical sites Cathy is interested in, over in Nevada, I
think. They have to do with the Navajos history.
So after that it's back to Merced for a brief couple of days, and then home.
These vacations are getting harder and harder to plan. Gone are the days when
I could walk all day and party nearly all night.
And Cathy has issues with an ankle she shattered back in her wild and crazy
youth, playing football with her step children. It has now decided to give her
serious problems if she's on it too long. So we do short walks and avoid the
guided tours.

Subject: [blind-democracy] Leaving Thursday
For any who may want a quick reply from me, it may not happen.
This Thursday, we are headed south to Merced, California and then to
my sister's in Sun City, Arizona and then who knows where. I'm taking
a new laptop computer, believing that I might be able to keep up on
email...but there is some feeling that this will not work out.
We'll be gone for about three weeks. Our neighbor's son and
daughter-in-law will be staying at our home and caring for the horses.
They will not take any calls.
I expect that the world will still be here when we return. I also
expect it to be uglier and meaner Spirited. In three weeks we should
see the mass media finally move away from that red herring the
administration is dragging to attract attention to the ho hum Russian
Sneak Attack on the Democratic Party. By that time we will begin
seeing just what "creating jobs" by Donald Trump looks like, as
thousands of government employees are sent to the bread lines.
Education for the masses will begin to cost, and those who have fallen
behind on their college loans will be finding employment within our
Private Prison Workforce. Trump and his gang of Profiteers will be
dancing closer to the flame of War, jabbing at North Korea and Iran.
In short, things will not have changed much...unless you happen to be
tossed out of your apartment or home, and are looking for room under
local overpasses. You'll need to take a number and get in line.
