Bonnie,
The hardest part of being your parents care giver, as Cathy is finding
herself, is that part of you still is the child, and part of them
continues to behave like the parent. But part of you now is the
parent, while part of them becomes the child.
Cathy had it all set up for the Visiting Angels to provide in-home
assistance. However, Dorothy will not open her door, And now she is
claiming that they steal from her. That was previously reserved for
Cathy's older sister, Marlene. But Marlene is told to stay out of
Dorothy's apartment, too.
Yesterday we worked with two clients and then stopped in to see if
Dorothy needed anything at the store. We had tried calling, but she
had messed up her phone again. She said she'd been waiting all day to
go to lunch. This was news to us. I'll tell you, Bonnie, if you lose
everything else, your hearing, your sight, your teeth, hair, and
bladder control, do not let them take away your memory! Refuse to let
it go! Sadly, this drama will not end with a smiley face.

Why was it that when my parents decided it was time to return to Arkansas to

to help those two bitter biddies I remained out here? Well, first of all it

that I've not been able to tolerate the climate there since I was in junior
high, and secondly it was to avoid being brought down to their level by
constant
exposure. As it was, they helped split the family and set a bitter divorce
into
motion.
