Sometimes "Feeling Good" is exactly what a person needs. I know the
letters(emails)that I send to the likes of Donald Trump will never
pass before his Remy eyes, but I get a boost out of blowing off. In
fact, I can't recall ever receiving a return note when I went off on a
political "leader".
I know they all have staff who look over the incoming mail, I've
received responses from the likes of Senators Patty Murray and Maria
Cantwell, but nothing ever came back from my efforts to "enlighten"
president Bush II, or even presidents Obama and Clinton...I think in
both cases I suggested that the Democratic Party should be proud to
have fielded such moderate Republican presidents.
Gotta run, the generator is not booting and needs me to go hit the
"run" button.

I sent an angry, critical one to Senator Schumer and, of course, received
nothing in response. Basically, I told him that I'm 82 years old, have been
a registered Democrat all of my life, and that I am very disappointed with
how the party functions these days and that I won't be voting for Joe Biden.
I gave some very specific criticisms of the party and some very specific
reasons for why I would not vote for Biden, and I also indicated that
because Trump is such a terrible president, the Democrats should have chosen
a better candidate to oppose him. But I know that writing that email,
although it made me feel better for about 10 seconds, was an exercise in
futility.

Dear Mr. Jarvis,
Thank you for your kind note. I understand that these past few weeks have
been challenging for folks across our region. These are unprecedented times
and it is more important than ever that we continue to support and lift up
those around us. With that in mind, I’m sincerely grateful for your well
wishes.
I know that there are a lot of people hurting right now. The economic
disruption caused by this pandemic has been massive. And the strain on our
healthcare system has been significant too.
There is no question that this virus is very contagious.
But so is kindness. So is compassion. I’m persistently heartened by the
kindness that people are showing their friends and neighbors – and even to
their representative. Thanks for that.
I also wanted to sincerely thank you for your work with the Jefferson County
Council of the Blind and the Peninsula Rehabilitation Services.
Your efforts in advocating for the blind and low vision community is
incredibly important, and I’m grateful for your partnership on these
important issues. Throughout my time in college, I recorded text books for
the blind and low vision population. For some reason, they persistently
assigned me incredibly dry economics text books. What I would’ve given for
just one piece of literature instead!
Please know that I’ll remain hard at work for seniors, as well as people
with disabilities, and continue to push for efforts that protect our public
health and help our country combat this pandemic.
To that end, I recently signed onto a letter to the Department of Health and
Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) to prioritize the needs of folks with disabilities as they issue
guidance related to funding established by the CARES Act. People with
disabilities and their families deserve support during this pandemic, and
I’m committed to seeing this through.
