OK. I'll look at them at some point. But Yahoo is just part of the corporate
media. I'm sorry, but given the fact that are news media are managed by
corporate interests, and these are the same interests whom the US government
supports with its foreign policy, it's hard to see them as objective sources
of information about Cuba, or much else. US policy has been to dominate Cuba
for economic reasons, for the benefit of US business. That has been its
policy in Latin America. That is its policy in the Middle East. And war
makes money for big corporations which is one reason that it continues,
regardless of its effects on people. Our corporations make money by
supplying our country with munitions and by selling them to other countries.
The US policy toward Cuba is changing because of economic necessity, because
the US was losing influence in Latin America on account of its policy toward
Cuba. And Cuba moved to a mixed economy. So now, suddenly, all these US
corporations want to go back into Cuba. They've decided the embargo is
stupid and against their interests. Business interests always dominate. Just
look at how our relationship with China has changed. And nothing about
China's autocratic system has changed. It's much worse than Cuba's system
ever was.

My problem is that I don't know how badly Cuba treats prisoners or
how many
prisoners it has. I can't depend on the US media for accurate
information on
this. Sylvie has indicated briefly to me, that Cuba has a history of
imprisoning dissidents. But I haven't read anything from
trustworthy,
neutral sources regarding details. Given its proximity to the US and
given
the constant efforts to subvert its government that the US has made
up to
the present time, I can see why Cuba might have taken defensive
measures.

        Hi Richard,

No, I don't think that would be mean given how the Castro brothers
treat
those living in Cuba who disagree with their point of view.
Obviously, it's
not all black and white here as the US is responsible for driving
Fidel
Castro into the arms of the Soviets back at the beginning of his
reign.
Also, Cuba is to be commended for its generosity during many crises
throughout the world. Given that Cuba is not a wealthy nation, it is
far
more generous than is the United States.

        All:
Would it be mean to generally indicate that Cuba has been a bad
actor over
        the past years?

No doubt that "the empire" as Fidel calls the US has acted
badly

political
prisoners, his words ring a bit hollow to me.
Just as the United States is hypocritical when complaining
about the
human rights records of other nations, Cuba is equally hypocritical.
