Bob,

I haven't read a lot about the prison abolitionist movement so I don't know
what its position is on questions like this. I suspect that making amends
and community service  is probably part of what they suggest in place of
punishment. There is certainly a real issue in terms of people whose
repeated behavior is physically harmful to others. I imagine that the
movement would want the way in which these people are handled, to be very
different from what happens in our prison system. The idea would be to keep
them segregated, not to punish them.

Hi Miriam,
I favor revoking the driver's licenses of drunk drivers. IF they insist upon
driving without a license, jail might be the only choice. OR, perhaps ankle
bracelets with GPS and restriction to one's home for most of the day. IF
they violate the ankle bracelet, then I see no other choice than jail. None
of us should have to be placed at the mercy of a repeat drunk driver. What
would you suggest?
Bob Hachey
