Well, as pointed out in Chasing The Scream, most people who use heavy pain
medication after surgery, don't become addicted. They taper off the
medication because they have full lives and emotional security. For months
before my hip replacement surgery in 2005, I was taking incredible amounts
of pain medication, all kinds of opiates, and then that continued after the
surgery. But I didn't become an addict. And ten years ago, it wasn't as
difficult to get those prescriptions filled and delivered.

Bottom line here, and it's a well-worn cliché. One size does not fit all.
For some, they may have had too much access to prescription pain killers and
became addicted. For others, it's chronic pain that requires constant use of
these same pain killers. The crhonic sufferers will be hurt badly if the
government insist on making it harder for everyone to get the pain killers.
Sad how when it was believed that mostly nonwhites were suffering the answer
was punishment and jail.
Now, let me walk something back. When it comes to race, one size does indeed
fit all. In other words, what's good for whites is also good for nonwhites.
