Dear Miriam,

Urge the Senate to back peace talks to end the Syria war.

Take ActionOn September 29th, 55 House Democrats led by Connecticut Democrat
Jim Himes sent a letter to President Obama calling for international talks to
end the Syrian civil war, including Russia and Iran. [1]

Now we want to use the Himes letter as leverage to get Senators to speak up,
echoing the call for international talks including Russia and Iran to end the
Syrian civil war.

Urge Senators to join with Rep. Himes in supporting international talks to end
the Syrian civil war, including Russia and Iran, by signing our petition at
MoveOn:

As Rep. Himes said on the House floor the next day: “The only real solution in
Syria...is for the international community, all of the players that have a
stake and influence in Syria, to come together today to begin the process of
working out an international agreement, the terms of which will undoubtedly be
uncomfortable for us, but an agreement that will bring an end to the civil
war...Until we do that, we will simply be managing chaos.” [2]

The media-outrage-festival-du-jour is that the monstrous Russians, under the
false pretext of attacking ISIS, are bombing "anti-Assad rebels" who are not
ISIS. What kind of horrible country would undertake military action in Syria
under the pretext of fighting ISIS, while pursuing some other objective? Here's
paragraphs 6 & 7 of NYT's "shocked to discover gambling in this establishment"
article [our emphasis]:

"Among the areas hit was the base of a group that had been supported and
supplied by the United States and its allies, said its leader, Jamil Saleh. He
said the group’s base had been hit severely in Hama Province, wounding eight of
his men. Later on Wednesday, American officials confirmed that some groups
supported by the United States had been hit.

"'We are on the front lines with Bashar al-Assad’s army,' said Mr. Saleh,
whose group has recently posted videos of its fighters using sophisticated
American-made TOW missiles to destroy government tanks. 'We are moderate Syrian
rebels and have no affiliation with ISIS. ISIS is at least 100 kilometers away
from where we are.'"
We can call the Russians bad names all day long, but it’s not going to do
anything to help civilians in Syria.

Urge Senators to join with Rep. Himes in supporting international talks to end
the Syrian civil war, including Russia and Iran, by signing and sharing our
petition:
