Just about the time you have the towel wadded up and ready to throw it
in, a bright light shines in the East.  Richard D. Wolff has mentioned
the organization of co-ops, as well as having been featured on the
Bioneers Program.  There are some real positive features to worker
owned companies.  Does anyone know first hand information about such a
business?

a Marxist economist who writes and talks a great deal about worker
cooperatives.

Long Island Progressive Coalition Launches Worker Coop Initiative

Long Island Progressive Coalition is proud to announce that we have launched
a Worker Cooperative Initiative on Long Island.  Worker Cooperatives are
worker owned businesses that allow workers to have a voice on their job and
profit from its success.  This initiaitve is geared toward building
community wealth by investing in Long Island communities.  Businesses owned
by local workers makes sure that wages and profits stay in the local
community and jobs stay here too.  We will model our Worker Cooperative
support sytem off of successful initiatives across the United States
including partnering with worker cooperatives in New York City.

We're excited to announce to help launch the Worker Cooperative Initiative
we have received a $50,000 contract from the Babylon IDA.  The grant will
provide for resources to assist current business owners in their succession
decisions including the benfits of selling a business to its workers.

Check out Newsday's story on the grant.
