Benjamin Netanyahu  and Donald Trump.  What's the old saying?  Birds
of a feather flock together.
And I can't think of a worst pair of flockers.
Not since America drove the Indians off their land, has there been
such a land grab as Netanyahu has pulled off.  It's amazing how
quickly the worm has turned.

FROM OUR POLITICS DESK
Barn Berner

If it feels like everything is happening at once, that’s because it is — and
it’s not exactly an accident. For now, the impeachment trial is ongoing. On
Monday, there’s the Iowa caucuses. On Tuesday, the State of the Union. On
Friday, a Democratic debate. And the following Tuesday, the New Hampshire
primary.

The Intercepted podcast will be reporting on-the-ground from the caucuses.

In the meantime, Trump’s son-in-law, who mystifyingly works in the White
House, is pretending to bring about Middle East peace, alongside Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — with a “plan” that permits Israel to
annex much of the occupied West Bank immediately. (Netanyahu,

Rob Mackey writes, is eager to distract from his own corruption charges.)
And on Wednesday, Trump signed into law the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement on
the lawn of the White House; the House Democrats who pushed it through were
not invited — and, perhaps more embarrassingly, were apparently surprised at
the snub. The USMCA, the renegotiated NAFTA, is his banner piece of
legislation and will be crucial to his reelection campaign.

But for now, there’s mounting evidence that Trump is more worried about the
populist energy being riled up by Bernie Sanders, coupled with Mike
Bloomberg’s endless billions. As Ryan Grim

reported, while Trump’s aides think Sanders will be easy to beat, Trump
himself is concerned about the momentum behind Sanders. He’s even taken to
mentioning “Crazy Bernie” more on Twitter and in rallies than any other
candidate.

Joe Biden, who used to be Trump’s #1 priority (see: his requested
announcement of an investigation into Hunter Biden), has sunk in the polls
and faded from Trump’s radar, thanks in part to a recent debate between the
former vice president and Sanders over Social Security. Biden has

repeatedly lied about his long record, as a deficit hawk, of trying to cut
Social Security. In fact, his advocacy for cutting benefits

spanned four decades. As Akela Lacy and Grim

reported this week, Biden is losing ground among older voters as this debate
has played out.

Still, a huge swath of the Iowa electorate remains undecided, meaning this
caucus could break in lots of different directions. This week, dark-money
ads went up on air attacking Sanders, and on Thursday, Sanders went on air
with

an electability ad, arguing that only someone with a record of defending
Social Security will be able to contrast with Trump. We’ve been covering
that fight closely, and it just may wind up being decisive.
