Optimum may be the problem, is that it is preventing me from receiving
messages from the DB Review list. However, I can send messages to DB Review
without difficulty. What is strange about my problem with Freelists, is
that apparently, my test message got through, but not the 2 articles that I
sent subsequently.

Free Lists that the message needed approval because it came from someone

was not subscribed. I thought she had gotten subscribed again yesterday,

I am not really sure what the whole problem is. This does prompt me to make
some comments to the list as a whole though. Recently Miriam asked me if I
knew that she was not subscribed then why did I not subscribe her. The
answer is that I can't. When I was setting up the list I came across a
disabled setting and the note that at one time Free Lists allowed
moderators
to subscribe people, but that function had been disabled because some
moderators had abused it. If you will recall, we had to spend a lot of time
informing everyone on the old list how to subscribe. If I had been able to
subscribe them it would have been a lot easier. This leads me to point out
something else though. Actually, there are certain reasons that I do not
like Free Lists very well. When I set up this list my first choice was
Yahoo
groups, but in the process of trying to create a list I ran into problems
and could not continue.
It used to be easy. I moderated a Yahoo list once before and it was easy to
set up and I had access to all the functions. Others have commented that
Yahoo made some changes that effectively render their groups inaccessible
to
blind people. I know that the BARD Talk group is still there, but the
moderator still has some problems accessing some functions. Anyway, as a
second choice I came to Free Lists. The main problem I have with Free Lists
as a participant rather than a moderator is that occasionally subscribers
just come unsubscribed. There is no warning and no indication that it has
happened until one goes a long time without receiving list messages. If it
is a low traffic list you might never find out. That has happened to me
before on both of the Bookshare lists and I know of one volunteer at
Bookshare who was unsubscribed for several months before she realized it.
She sent me a private message asking me about something that I had already
said on list and when I told her that she found out that she was no longer
subscribed. She had thought that list traffic was just especially low. I
have also come unsubscribed from the Blind Tech list. There is such heavy
traffic there that it doesn't take long to figure that one out. In fact,
once I came unsubscribed I was so relieved to not have the pressure of
dealing with so much email every day that I never got around to
resubscribing. Anyway, when I was setting up this list and going through
the
settings I was looking at each setting and deciding how I wanted it on the
spot. Mostly I just left the default mode in place.
However, I did come across a setting that at the time made me think that it
was what was responsible for this random unsubscribing. I now forget
exactly
what it was, but I know that I changed it from the default mode.
I thought that setting was the problem, but I was never quite sure then or
now. I don't know if Miriam's problem is that she just came unsubscribed as
participants in Free Lists groups are prone to do. If that was what
happened
to her she should be back on the list by now because all one has to do is
to
subscribe again. Yet, here was another notification that I needed to
approve
a message from her because the sender was not subscribed. In any case, if
any of you notice that it has been a long time since you have gotten a list
email you might want to look into the possibility that Free Lists has just
dumped you.
