Penny, I am a big supporter of geo-thermal heating. Unfortunately the install
costs are still pretty steep depending upon where in the country folks live.

Hi Frank, We don't fight about the temperature anymore, since we installed the
talking thermostat! No more sneaking around, I guess, is what has made the
difference! If I'm too cold, I just turn it up, and in the summer, I'm usually
the one who turns it down!
A few years ago, we installed a geothermal heating system. There's an auxiliary
heatpump that kicks in when the outside temperatures are down around zero. We
like the new system quite a lot, and it's great to feel like we're doing
something positive for the environment and to know that we're not paying any
more money to the oil industry!

Penny, I am always burning up hot and my wife is freezing. We used to

She was always cranking it up and I was always sneaking it down. We
have since installed the talking thermostats. Now when one of us
changes it the other one can hear what it is being changed to. We
don't battle over the temp as much now. We actually just had two new
heat pumps installed to supplement the main heating unit since we were
going through $8 to $10 thousand a year in heatingoil. The new heat
pumps have wireless remote controls with LCD screens. I know that
sounds scarry but I found that they can be read with an app on my phone like
Seeing AI.

Welcome back, Miriam! Hope things begin to fall into place quickly!
Have you considered getting an audio thermostat? There are several
brands. I didn't think I wanted an audio-accessible thermostat (since
I relied on saying, "Well, I can't read the thermostat..." whenever I
turned the heat up or the AC down to a place where my husband didn't
like it ...). But, it turns out I love know what the ambient
temperature is and controlling the temperature I want myself -- no
more passive aggression for me; I am standing up for the ambient
temperature I want! <mostly a joke!>

Hi Miriam,
Success sometimes comes in little bitty steps. You are cold, you are
disoriented, your phone is not hooked up. Sure, those are most
certainly annoying, but you have the most important connections, the
internet and a good talking book...you do have a good book, don't you?
Seriously, the thought of uprooting and being dropped in a new place
with piles of boxes spread all around, gives me the shudders.
It snowed here last night. A wet heavy snow that is already melting.
About an inch at best. It doesn't look like a day to work outside.
I'd thought I'd try smoothing out the worst of the pot holes in our
road, but even the thought of that wears me out. So the snow gives
me a good excuse.
I'm tucking in a fluffy pile of snugly warm thoughts to wrap yourself
in, and wishing you an easy transition.

Well, I'm here in South Huntington, and the computer is working. I
haven't looked at the computer all day, but I have heard some
podcasts while my children packed up stuff and the movers moved. The
phone was turned off at my old address, but never turned on at my
new address as promised. Things are still mostly packed. I'm disoriented.
I'm also very cold although, theoretically, the thermostat is set at
74. Since the tactile thermostat has not yet been installed and
since everyone else feels warmer than I do most of the time, I'll
never know what the temperature actually is. It may be that I will
feel normal someday.
