Ah yes. The Dixicrats. At the time I thought that if only Roosevelt
could rid himself of these nasty Southern slime balls, he could do
even more good for the Working Class. Of course I was still a kid.
It was years before I figured out that Roosevelt needed these Slime
Balls in order to win election. In many ways, his "Larger than Life"
image was helped by "Trickle Down" Hoover and the Greed of Wall
Street.
But most certainly Eleanor Roosevelt was a strong influence. Eleanor
gives truth to the old saying, "Behind every successful man is a Great
woman".

remind me of Obama. One thing FDR didn't do was to come out with a strong
statement against lynching while it was extremely prevalent and the civil
libertarians were begging him to do so. He didn't want to displease his
southern constituency.

I recall that Roosevelt created a position for James, but didn't know about
the military promotion. Those sorts of things I can forgive.
Some of Roosevelt's decisions were unforgivable. But mostly, Roosevelt was
a far sighted, clever man, and deserves to be ranked among the two or three
"Real" Leaders. Maybe four. Off the top of my head I present the short
list of Leaders: Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR and LBJ.
At the other extreme the list could be longer, but I certainly put Jackson,
Hoover, and Reagan...with room for Trump when he is done with plundering
America.

FDR refused to allow military equipment to be sent to the republican
forces in Spain. He said he was remaining neutral. However, he did
send military equipment to the Fascist rebels. In effect, he was
blockading the democratic government from receiving military help
while aiding Franco and this is why Franco won. It had to do with the fear
of Communism.
