Hello all, Good job Carol. Doctor Z has some more info on the knight rescuing the king. Carol's first and third variations are wonderful. Her second variation needs work and clarification. 3. Ne3 (Knight blocks check but gets pinned.) exf1=Q++ (Pawn takes queen becoming a black queen. Since rook protects queen king is checkmated. Knight cannot move since pinned.) Best move for white is this variation. 3. Nf2 (Knight blocks both bishop and rook.) exf1=Q+ (Pawn takes queen becoming queen.) 4. Kxf1 (King takes queen.) Rxf2+ (Rook takes knight checking king.) 5. Kg1 Rf8+ (Bishop checks king.) 6. Kh1 Rf1++ 5. Ke1 (better move) If white makes Nf2 for the third move, black will be only a rook ahead. Edward Hello all, Below are some possible solutions to this problem: 1..........Qf1+ 2. Qxf1 e2+ 3. Kh1 exf1=Q++ OR 1.........Qf1+ 2. Qxf1 e2+ 3. Ne3 Bxe3+ 4. Kh1 Rxf1++ OR 1......Qf1+ 2. Qxf1 e2+ 3.
