Hi Richard, If I had to choose between the long and short algebraic notation setups, I would prefer the short algebraic notation. It is almost similar to what we must write when sending moves. As a screen reader, I do not have a problem with any of the setups. Anew series of problems will begin the following week around the 23rd of May. There are approximately 300 problems in this next series from the Fred Reinfield book "win at Chess". From what I can see in the first ten problems the book covers a full range of mating and tactical problems. I have a new problem format for these problems and I am posting that format here for comments or suggestions. Briefly I show a FEN setup, a short algebraic setup and a long algebraic setup. The short setup may be easier for Braille displays and the long setup better for screen readers. The format is generated automatically by a program. If there is a better way to handle Braille let me know and we can try to employ it. I can translate piece symbols to special byte codes if that will help, so think about it. In these new problems you will only be given which player moves, nothing like mate in two. You must determine what the best next move is and why. Below is the new format for an initial board setup: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- White to move FEN Problem Setup: rnbqkbnr/ pppppppp/ 8/ 8/ 8/ 8/ PPPPPPPP/ RNBQKBNR w - - 0 1 Short Algebraic Problem Setup: White: Ke1, Qd1, Ra1, Rh1, Bc1, Bf1, Nb1, Ng1, Pa2, Pb2, Pc2, Pd2, Pe2, Pf2, Pg2, Ph2 Black: Ke8, Qd8, Ra8, Rh8, Bc8, Bf8, Nb8, Ng8, Pa7, Pb7, Pc7, Pd7, Pe7, Pf7, Pg7, Ph7 Long Algebraic Problem Setup: White: King e1 Queen d1 Rooks a1 and h1 Bishops c1 and f1 Knights b1 and g1 Pawns a2, b2, c2, d2, e2, f2, g2 and h2 Black: King e8 Queen d8 Rooks a8 and h8 Bishops c8 and f8 Knights b8 and g8 Pawns a7, b7, c7, d7, e7, f7, g7 and h7 The best move is: d4 Principle: Queen pawn openings rock!
