Hi all,

E. you have some of it right, but not all, I think. Part of a job of a volunteer coordinator is to acknowledge volunteers for what they have done and to reward them accordingly. In most organizations, this is done by citing the volunteer who's given the most volunteer hours. On Bookshare, it might be done by citing the volunteer who's scanned the most or validated the most. Also, a coordinator would be able to suggest tasks for volunteers. Part of this job requires knowing the volunteers and their talents so that if a given task comes up, he or she can say, "E., could you help so-and-so with this task. Or say to someone looking for a validator for a book with Japanese vocabulary. I think you want to ask X to validate that book for you because X is familiar with Japan.

No, of course we volunteers don't expect rewards for volunteering beyond the normal credits acrued, but a coordinator's job does entail this in most organizations.

It also involves a lot of paperwor. Many grantors want to know how volunteers are performing and what they are doing. So, this falls to the coordinator too.

Oh, it ain't an easy job atall, atall. <smiling> If I weren't 3,000 miles away, I might consider applying, but I don't want to relocate, thanks.

Ann P.
