[bksvol-discuss] unfathomable codes

Dear Booksharian Friends,

I'm not sure what happened except that my theory that I was dabbling in codes I don't understand has been confirmed. When I posted my last message the computer asked me for the first time ever if I wanted to send the message in Unicode, whatever that is.

The second choice was to send "as is" which is what I did. I think there was a third choice which I didn't bother to tab to and read. In the process of reaching you, some of the symbols I made were changed. I know that some blank spaces where the keystroke made no symbol were filled by question marks, but other symbols changed completely and since JAWS isn't talking I really don't know the details of what's going on.

I'm abandoning this thread glad to know how to make the playing card symbols, especially the heart and diamond.

Always with love,

Lissi

Dear Jill, Susan I and Booksharian Friends

When the unlock is on, all of the numbers on the nomad, while I'm in word, make symbols, but I can't tell what they are. Thanks to Bob we know what alt 3, 4, 5, and 6, create.

I told JAWS to speak all of the punctuation and made a row of symbols from one through nine. He only said black diamond suit for the alt 4 and bullet for alt 7. He won't speak the heart, spade and club and I have no idea what symbols are coming out for the alt 1, 2, 8, and 9. I am happy to know this new way of making a bullet.

I've also found that I can make more symbols by pressing alt and the number once, twice or 3 times but I can't tell what these are except for a huge dark dash and a dark rectangle standing up. I'm making them below starting with alt one, alt, one, alt one one. and following that pattern to nine. These must be covered in the manual somewhere but I'm a ditz with manuals.

1 ??of
2 ???
3 ?!ME
4 ?,?
5 ?7+
6 ?BUT
7 .ME?
8 ?Xx
9 ?c?

The line below is what happened with alt and the number pressed 4 times
WE«?\??a??
The next line is made from symbols that come up with alt and the num pad number pressed with 5 reps.
£5£?job?8f

I'm in over my head, probably forming some kind of computer language known only to computer aficionados, engineers, techies and programmers.

I'll make better use of my time learning more about scanner settings and getting Christmas Letters in shape to submit for Susan I. I'm on page 92, Susan. My target day to submit is Sunday. I didn't get a stellar scan. It's my hope you won't be able to tell this book needed lots of cleaning up before it was ready for you.

Always with love,

Lissi

With the numlock on, pressing alt and 4 on the keypad, Jaws version 8 says four in M.S. Word. What am I doing wrong?
