[bksvol-discuss] Re: the story of a proofer

It may be true that there are a lot more reliable proofers out there than some people seem to think, but if a submitter doesn't hold a book for someone they know is reliable, then how do they ensure that they don't get a Jiffy proofer?

I've asked you this question before when you've objected to the Hold for; you've never answered it. I ask it once again.

I take offense at this notion that only certain select people are
"reliable" proofers. I never get "hold fors", which is fine by me. It
doesn't mean I'm just some careless jiffy-proofer. I understand
submitters don't want the careless proofers, but I think there are a lot
more reliable folks out there than some people seem to think. It just
smells to me like in-crowd foolishness.

People can only have five books in their queue at any given time. So, if
someone didn't have room, the book might conceivably sit for longer than
two
weeks. Right now, that isn't a problem. The people I work with take books
of
mine in a timely fashion. However, once the new policy is implemented,
books
might be taken by unreliable proofers. If this is the case, I will be
reluctant to submit as often as I currently do.

Yes. You have proofread for me, and I'm very grateful for the work you do.

Hi Shannon!

I really understand what you're saying about having a good relationship
with
a proofreader and how important that is. I've proofread your books--at
least
two or three of them, and I think we've worked well together.

However, I'm not understanding comments on this thread that express a
concern about the "holds" being for two weeks effecting the number of
books
you or others would be able to submit. The change in the "holds" just
means
you'd have two weeks to download the book from the time it was placed on
the
check out list. It doesn't mean that you couldn't renew it--I renew a book
all the time.

Could you please clarify how this would be a negative?

Blessings.

Lynnsky
